'A Walk Through Colossians'

Colossians Chapter 2
Study Table of Contents
CHAPTER TWO

Study One:  “Fine-Sounding Arguments”
Colossians 2:1-5

Verse 4:"I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments."

On a daily basis, we see and hear marketing campaigns designed to tell us what to eat, what to buy, where to live, what to drive, and in general, how to live. Just as parents look for words to teach children to use when they encounter those who want to lead them astray – Paul counters the “fine-sounding arguments” of the world, with the truth of the gospels.

Study Two: “Hollow and Deceptive Philosophies”
Colossians 2:6-8

What are some of these deceptive philosophies:  “Man is the center of the universe and controls all things;”  “We can accomplish anything we want through sheer determination and will;”  “He who has the most toys wins;” “We should always look out for number one;” “We are God;” This chapter continues the exploration of what the world teaches us, compared to what we find in God’s word.

Study Three: “Breaking the Rules”
Colossians 2:9-15

So if all of the rules from today’s world are wrong....if the ammunition we are given for success is a lie....how are we to disarm?  And, once we give up these worldly weapons, will we be weak or triumphant?

Study Four:  “Healthy Living”
Colossians 2:16-23

As busy women in need of rest, we concern ourselves with stress-free living, proper diet and exercise, and pampering (spa visits if we can afford it.) What we have to be careful with, as evidenced in this passage, are regimens and rituals which lead us away from Christ-based living.
