Mary Magdalene. Her name probably indicates that she came from Magdala, on the SW coast of the Sea of Galilee. After Jesus cast seven demons out of her (Mark 16:9; Luke 8:2), she became one of his devoted followers. She followed the body of Jesus to the grave (Matt 27:61) and was the first to learn of the Resurrection (28:1-8; Mark 16:9; Luke 24:1, 10).
